Photography

I have so many friends that take amazing pictures. Just like other artists they all have their own style and photo "voice".

I love taking pictures of everything, but I know my personal best are around the soccer pitch.

This is my friend Julie. She takes beautiful pictures. I know she loves to shoot a wedding, but some of the images under her missions tab on her site are breathtaking.

I have even tried to get her to step into real estate photography. I know a few people who could use her services. And when I am successful, you will hear about it here!

So, if you have been looking for someone to take your child's senior pictures, or you are getting married and shopping photographers, check out her work.
She is a good egg.
And be sure to tell her Molly sent ya!

Fall Color

From Halloween
I was hoping to get more beautiful shots of the great fall color in Kentucky this time of year.

However, it appears I was on vacation (in Florida) when all the good stuff happened. I feel like this is the only tree in my local existance that waited for me before it dropped all its leaves.

Everything else went from sickly yellow, to brown, to the ground. Lots of rain and high wind made for a short viewing season this year.

Rats.

St. James Court

This weekend is the St. James Art Festival, a long time Louisville favorite. They even close schools in Jefferson County so teachers can attend! (In reality they probably close schools because it is impossible for you to travel in the area with people setting up and getting to the show).

My favorite place to park has always been at YPAS (Youth Performing Arts School) because parking for this event is one of their biggest school fundraisers.

I was a little worried this morning when I work up to rain, but now at almost 10 am the sun trying to pop beyond the clouds. If you are able to get Friday off (like the Jefferson County School Teachers) it is the best day to attend.
  1. you get first choice of all the awesome art
  2. it isn't as crowded as Saturday
  3. some of the vendors close up shop on Sunday
There used to be a candle lady that sold these awesome sand cast candles that smelled heavenly. If you weren't at her booth by noon on Friday, you could forget owning one for that year. They filled a UHaul truck with as many as they could and literally be DONE-out of inventory before the end of the first day.

Here are some of my favorite artists (and people) that I have purchased items from in the past:
  • Scott Burns my husband loves his work because he uses some kind of math and a computer and makes these awesome images. I love the design, I don't care how he got them. Math makes my head hurt.
  • James Archambeault local dude. awesome imagery. photography. wow.
  • Sean Corner oh, this kid's work is amazing. I have one of his small women face sculptures that is in my bedroom and I have to say it is one of my most treasured objects. Breathtaking work. (and if you visit his site, check out his bio page-those pictures of him are great).
  • wiwat kamolpornwijit incredible polymer clay jewelry that I did not purchase but thought so beautiful it brought me to tears. I didn't see him on the list for this year but check out his work it is awesome.
If you go, stay dry and buy a sand cast candle for me!

Very Special...

I got my new issue of Southern Living today and took time out of the family room remodel to sit down with a glass of tea (from Sonic) to drool over the pages. There was an article on a bunglow in Chattanooga, Tennessee that I was particularily smitten over. And then on page 52, I saw the coolest thing. The homeowner had taken an envelop from his families past and had it blown up to probably 40 x 30 inches and framed. What a cool idea! But, even more interesting...the address:

Louisville, KY

So, being the curious little human, I googled it and ya know what, that house is currently listed! Click on that link above and check it out!

It’s the Little Things

We hear that a lot.

“it wasn’t any ONE thing”
“the straw that broke the camels back”

Many times those statements are about relationships, but they can also be about purchasing a new home. Right now my family and I are remodeling, or I should say creating a family room from the floor up.

We have removed walls and pulled up flooring.

Painted ceilings and taken out unused and antiquated phone jacks (the old round ones that take a pronged phone plug-from like 1970). We even found a home for, via freecycle, an old GE olive colored range with a double oven combo!

I am not just doing this remodel to have a great place to spend time with my family and friends, one day, we will sell our house. When you go into a remodel job with that in mind, you notice things.

Like:

  • The paint dripped on the outlets from years of careless painting
  • The old registers that had been painted several times instead of removed and reinstalled.
  • The condition of the out of style door knobs (that will be replaced one day in the future)
  • Holes knocked in hollow core doors or a knick that need to be filled and painted in a solid door

  • So, if you are thinking of selling your home, walk through with a critical eye. It is easier to do that now than after it has been on the market for a few months.

    Kentucky in Print- September Edition

The people at Southern Living must love our fair state. We get mentions all the time. I did discover that the Editor in Cheif, Eleanor Griffin is from Kentucky! I found a great interview at Catholic.org about her (found here).

But, back to Kentucky, in the September issue they have a great write up on Bourbon Country. and another mention about Gelato Gilberto in Norton Commons (a development in East Louisville)-they make a fine Italian Ice Cream-Yum. I might have to run over there today and have some!
